An Escape to North – Sweden * Kuzeye Bir Kaçış – İsveç

Hi there! I've been gone for 2 weeks, I had a little northern weather break. In this blog, I won't guide you in another city in Europe, but I would like to talk a little bit about life 😊
I can say that I really miss snow in Portugal. In Istanbul we normally see snow a couple of times in winter but unfortunately we don't have this weather in Lisbon. Only wind, rain and mud. Yes, it can be very beautiful in summer, of course it is windy again, but in winter it is always raining, always cold. This is the second time I have visited my friends in Sweden since I moved here.
Last year I worked abroad in Sweden, with a very nice Christmas month, this year I had a short visit for only a week. Although I didn't travel much, I want to compare a little bit about life in the city here.
First of all, when you land at Gothenburg airport, you see that there is not a trace of the chaos in Lisbon, the roads, the luggage and the parking area are neat and clean. The Lisbon airport still looks messy to me and I think it is insufficient for a touristic country. Although Gothenburg airport is not big, it is really spacious and very organized. Of course, it wouldn't make sense to compare Istanbul airport with either of them, it's incredibly big.
My city that I stayed, Borås is a 30-minute drive from Gothenburg. In general, I can say that I had a snowy and lazy vacation with my friends. We had movie and game nights at home because it gives me peace of mind and it is really fun to do activities side by side with friends you spend time with online, after all, you are on the same page that you have spent so many hours and got to know each other 😊
It was hovering around -7°C, which is why we were mostly indoors. You could see that Swedes were out a little bit during the weekdays, but they still have the habit of going home early. On Tuesday, it was snowing outside and we spent time in an indoor game place. Between bowling and darts, I learned a new game called "Shuffleboard". It's like curling but you play on a slippery table with magnetized heavy disks. There are points for the one who throws the disk the furthest. Of course, there were 3 of us and I lost the game to my team 😊 It was a fun evening. You can often see places like this where we Istanbulies play games at a discounted price on weekdays. I haven't even touched a bowling ball in Lisbon yet, I haven't practiced for a while.
Another day, my friends couldn't resist my insistence so we went on a little car trip together. First we went to see a water tower, it looks like a small castle. However, I guess it is so insignificant that there is no information or history content on any of its corners. Normally in most areas there are Swedish content panels for the locals to look at. I wanted to try my new lens and I like to see buildings with the texture of a "castle" so we came here. Then, in this cold weather, they took me to a place where they normally swim in the lake in summer. But I asked for it, so we had to visit it 😊 . We can say that Almenäs is an area where they swim in the lake in the summer and refresh themselves, and in the winter, maybe crazy people like us drink hot "O'boy" in a thermos. I'm glad we made our hot drink, we went just so I could take photos with the new lens of my camera and we could see a little bit. Since it was my third visit, we chose to stay in the city and spend time together, because we had been to Gothenburg together before. Lake Almenäs was not frozen yet, maybe it never will be I don't know. When I went to Lake Dannike in December last year, I saw a frozen lake for the first time in my life. This time the only frost was on my body.
After a few pictures of the landscape we went home.
If I talk about what I experienced from their food, I would say the beer sausage called "ölkorv". I really loved it, imagine that it's finger-thick long sticks and it's made of the best quality sausage. Another product, I don't normally eat candy, but they have a car-shaped candy called "Bilar", I think they call it the best-selling car 😊 Next, I don't like the chocolates in Lisbon, so when I left, I immediately made "Marabou" chocolate stocks in to the suitcase. Of course, it can't beat my favourites "Eti" chocolate in Turkey! Another thing I would like to evaluate is "Cider", although I don't remember the brand, it is much more delicious than the one I drank in Lisbon. I think I have come to this conclusion that I like the products in Sweden, everything is of better quality, more delicious. I don't even remember what "cider" I drank in Istanbul, but it's not very popular there and it's not very tasty. Last but not least, I think Turkish restaurants are definitely more successful than Portuguese ones, their lamb skewers are amazing. The last time I went to the Turkish restaurant which is"Istanbul Grill" I asked the chef if he could grill a plate of sausage (sucuk) even though it wasn't on the menu, he didn't break my heart 😊 He asked me a lot of questions when I told him I was Turkish, do I live there, what am I doing, if I was unemployed he would probably find me a job, but it's good that it's like this. After all, a handful of people look after each other in the same city.
Last but not least, we went to Viskan Café by the "Viskan" river one afternoon for some classic Swedish meatballs. I love the taste and texture of the meatballs there. They are served with lingonberry marmalade and wonderful mashed potatoes as originally. I can say that it is a bit expensive compared to other places, you can have a salad and a drink and then a coffee. Thanks to my friends, they take me here every time I go so I can eat my favorite meatballs. I almost forgot the coffee! In a café called "Tant Grön" we have a really successful filter coffee with my favorite "kanelbullar" as a Swedish "Fika".
I packed up after having Swedish meatballs and then petting and playing with 2 cats at my friend's house. After a fun but lazy week with my playmates, I'm going home with a heavy heart. They are really good to me and my soul, I can often feel lonely in Lisbon, so I'm taking my dose for a week, jarring these beautiful experiences and emotions and going home.
I think I could live in Sweden if I could, I love the food, I am very ok with the life style.. One of the things I don't like is that if you are hungry at night there is no place to order a proper meal. Maybe pizza, I am not a pizza person at all. I have the same situation in Lisbon. You know, if you were a bit tipsy, from Taksim in Istanbul, you could swing from the little Beyoğlu at night, you could have 2 wet hamburgers or a tripe soup in the square, slightly high. Neither in Lisbon nor in Borås there is such a situation. I miss the night drinking and then eating.
I would like to spend another Christmas in Sweden with a snow view, but this year I am in Lisbon. Let's see how it will be here, I will share it in my next posts 😊
Selam ! 2 haftadır yoktum, ufak bir kuzey havası arası vermiştim. Bu yazımda size Avrupa’nın başka bir kentinde rehberlik yapmayacağım, ama biraz yaşamdan bahsedebilirim 😊
Portekiz’de karı çok özlediğimi söyleyebilirim. İstanbul’da normal şartlarda kışın bir kaç defa kar görüyoruz ama Lizbon’da bu havalar yok maalesef. Ancak rüzgar, yağmur çamur. Evet yazın çok güzel olabilir, tabi yine rüzgar ama kışın hep yağmur, hep soğuk. Buraya taşındığımdan beri İsveç’teki arkadaşlarımı ikinci defa ziyaret edişim.
Geçen sene Yurt dışında İsveç'te çalışmamı çok güzel bir Christmas ayına denk getirmiştim, bu sene sadece 1 hafta kısa bir ziyaret yapıverdim. Aşırı gezmesem de şehirdeki yaşamdan biraz bahsetmek istedim burada..
Öncelikle Göteborg havaalanına indiğinizde Lizbon’daki karışıklıktan eser olmadığını, yolların, bavul ve otopark alanına kadar düzgün ve temiz bir şekilde ilerlediğini görüyorsunuz. Lizbon hava alanı bana halen karışık gelmesiyle birlikte bu turistik bir memleket için yetersiz olduğunu düşünüyorum. Göteborg havaalanı büyük olmasa da gerçekten ferah kalıyor ve çok nizami. İstanbul havaalanını tabi ikisiyle de kıyaslamak pek mantıklı olmaz, orası gerçekten inanılmaz büyük.
Bulunduğum şehir Borås Göteborg’a araçla 30dakika uzaklıkta. Genel anlamda arkadaşlarımla kar içerikli ve tembel bir tatil geçirdiğimi söyleyebilirim. Evde film ve oyun geceleri yaptık çünkü hem bana huzur veriyor hem de online vakit geçirdiğiniz arkadaşlarınızla yan yana da etkinlik yapmak gerçekten çok eğlenceli, sonuçta aynı kafadasınız ki bu kadar saat vakit geçirip birbirini tanımışsın 😊
Hava -7 °C seviyelerinde geziyordu, genelde iç mekanlarda takılmamızın sebebi bu. İsveçlilerin hafta içi az da olsa dışarda mekanlarda olduklarını görebilirdiniz ama yine de erken eve dönme huyları mevcut tabi. Salı günü dışarısı kar kış, kapalı bir oyun mekanında vakit geçirdik. Bowling, dart derken yeni bir oyun öğrendim, adı “Shuffleboard”. Curling gibi ama kaygan bir masada, mıknatıslı ağır disklerle oynuyorsunuz. Diskini en uzağa atana puan var. Tabi 3 kişiydik ve ekibine girdiğime oyunu kaybettirdim 😊 Eğlenceli bir akşamdı. Biz istanbulluların da böyle hafta içi günleri indirimli fiyattan oyun oynadığı mekanları sıkça görebilirsiniz. Lizbon’da henüz bowling topuna elimi bile sürmüş değilim, bayadır pratik yapmamıştım.
Bir diğer gün de arkadaşlarım benim ısrarlarıma dayanamadığı için birlikte ufak bir araç gezisi yaptık. Önce bir su kulesi görmeye gittik. Ufak bir kaleye benziyor. Ancak o kadar önemsiz ki galiba hiçbir kenar köşesinde bilgi, tarih içerik bilgisi koyulmamış. Normalde çoğu bölgede yerlilerin inceleyebilmesi için İsveççe içerik panelleri oluyor. Ben yeni lensimi deneyeyim ve “kale” dokusunda yapılar görmeyi sevdiğim için buraya gelmiştik. Ardından bu soğuk havada, normalde yazın göle girdikleri bir yere götürdüler. Ama ben kaşındım yani illa gezelim diye. Almenäs, yazın göle girip tazelendikleri, kışın da belki bizim gibi delilerin termosta sıcak “O’boy” içtikleri bir alan diyebiliriz. İyi ki yapmışız sıcak içeceğimizi, sırf ben fotoğraf makinemin yeni lensiyle fotoğraf çekeyim az da gezelim diye gittik. 3. Gidişim olduğu için şehir içinde kalıp beraber vakit geçirmeyi seçtik, daha önce birlikte Göteborg’a gitmiştik çünkü. Almenäs gölü henüz donmamıştı, belki de hiç donmayacak. Geçen sene aralık ayında “Dannike” gölüne gittiğimde hayatımda ilk defa donmuş göl görmüştüm. Bu seferki tek don vücudumdaydı
Azıcık manzara fotoğrafı kareledikten sonra evlere dağıldık.
Yemeklerinden deneyimlediklerime gelirsem, “ölkorv” denilen bira sucuğu diyebilirim. Gerçekten bayıldım, parmak kalınlığında uzun çubuklar olduğunu ve bunun en kaliteli sucuk malzemesinden yapıldığını hayal edin. Eve dönerken bir paket getirdim. Bir diğer ürün, normalde şeker yemem ancak “Bilar” isimli araba şeklinde şekerleri var, sanırım buna en çok satan araba adını takmışlar 😊 Sonraki ise Lizbondaki çikolataları pek sevmiyorum, bu durumda gittiğimde hemen bavula “Marabou” çikolata deposunu yaptım. Tabi Türkiye’deki “Eti” çikolatamın üzerine tanımam o ayrı! Bir başka değerlendirmek istediğim, “Cider” markasını hatırlamasam da aynı şekilde Lizbon’da içtiğimden çok daha lezzetli. İsveç’teki ürünleri seviyorum galiba bu kanıya vardım, her şey daha bir kaliteli, daha bir nefis geliyor. İstanbul’da ne “cider” içtiğimi bile hatırlamıyorum ama orada pek popüler değil, ayrıca lezzetli de değil. Son olarak Türk restoranlarının kesinlikle Portekiz’den daha başarılı olduğunu düşünüyorum. Kuzu şişleri bir şahane yapıyorlar. Bir önce gittiğimde “İstanbul Grill” Türk restoranında menüde olmamasına rağmen şefe bir tabak sucuk ızgara yapıp yapamayacağını sormuştum, beni kırmamıştı çok sağolsun 😊 Bir sürü soru sordu Türk olduğumu söyleyince, orada mı yaşıyorum ne yapıyorum, işsiz olsam iş bulacaktı herhalde, ama böyle olması da iyi aslında. Sonuçta bir avuç kadar insan birbirine sahip çıkıyordur aynı şehirde.
Son olarak tabi ki klasik İsveç Köftesi yemek için bir öğlen “Viskan” nehrinin yanındaki Viskan Cafeye gittik. Oradaki köfteye, tadına dokusuna bayılıyorum. Orjinal olarak, yabanmersini marmeladı ve şahane bir patates püresiyle servis ediliyor. Sosu da müthiş! Diğer mekanlara göre bir tık pahalı geldiğini söyleyebilirim, yanında salata bir içecek ve sonra da bir kahve içebiliyorsunuz. Arkadaşlarım sağolsunlar beni her gittiğimde buraya götürürler en sevdiğim köfteleri yiyebilmem için. Az kalsın kahveyi unutuyordum! “Tant Grön” adlı bir kafede en sevdiğim “kanelbullar” ile gerçekten başarılı filtre kahveyi isveç “Fika”sı olarak gerçekleştiriyoruz.
Son günümü İsveç köftesi yiyerek geçirdim, ardından arkadaşımın evindeki 2 kediyi sevip mıncıklamaya çalışarak ve oynayarak geçirmemin arkasından toplandım. Oyun arkadaşlarımla geçirdiğim eğlenceli ama bir o kadar tembel bir haftanın ardından içi buruk eve dönüyorum. Onlar ruhuma ve bana gerçekten çok iyi geliyorlar, Lizbon’da çoğu zaman yalnız hissedebiliyorum, o sebeple 1 hafta dozumu alıp bu güzel yaşanmışlıkları ve duyguları kavanozlayıp evime dönüyorum.
Sanırım imkanım olsa İsveç’te yaşayabilirim, yemeklerini seviyorum, hayat tarzları bana da uyuyor. Hoşlaşmadığım noktalardan biri, gece acıksanız doğru düzgün yemek sipariş edebileceğiniz bir yer yok. Anca belki pizza, hiç ama hiç pizza insanı da değilim. Aynı durumu Lizbon’da da yaşıyorum. Hani İstanbul’daki eski Taksim olsa, gece küçük beyoğlundan salınsanız hafif kafanız güzel, meydanda 2 ıslak hamburger ya da bir işkembe çorbası içersin. Ne Lizbon’da ne Borås’ta öyle bir durum yok. Gece içmelerini ve ardından yemelerini çok özledim.
Bir Christmas daha İsveç’te kar manzaralı bir şekilde geçirmek isterdim, ama bu sene Lizbon’dayım. Bakalım burada nasıl geçecek, sonraki yazılarımda paylaşacağım 😊
